Default usb pci card with comp that already has usb; does it work?

Has anybody gotten this pci card to work well with XP sp2 and with a
computer that already had usb 2 ports and headers on the motherboard? I
heard that it was almost impossible to get a usb pci card to work with a
comp that already had some usb 2 ports. I added the card anyway and xp
installed it automatically, but my comp has been locking up since I put on
sp2. The thing is, I put the card in the day before I put sp2 on it the
comp, so I don't know what to think. I am fixing to take out this card and
see if I still get the locks up. There are no errors in Event Viewer when
the comp locks up.

Not that specific card but I've added PCI USB kits to PCs that already had
USB built in. I'd suspect that it's an SP2 thing...

I read the reviews, and it appears that the card comes with drivers.
If that is the case, it is always good practice to use the
manufacturer's supplied drivers. If you have not used the
manufacturer's supplied drivers, try it now.

Yes, but the problem is that XP installs it automatically before I can even
get to it to do it myself. I can see no way to stop xp from re-installing it
when I uninstall it and select find new hardware.

Device manager. Right click card. Update driver. If device came with
CD insert it now...
select the advanced option and point it in the right direction.

How is that a problem?
You now UPDATE the drivers or just install the drivers manually.

There should be a pamphlet that came with the card or a PDF or something on
the CD that probably came with the card explaining how to install.. Maybe
the file is called "ReadMe.*"?

In any case - you should attempt to update the driver of the card to the
ones that came supplied with it.. Just because Windows installed drivers for
it does not mean those are the best NOR that you have to remove them before
you update them.

I have two different USB 2.0 cards, one with five ports and the other
with 4 USB 2.0 and one internal and one external firewire. I have never
had a problem installing. Just install in my Dell 8200 and turn the PC
on and it is done.

It's a problem, I suspect, because the instructions that came with the card
say not to let XP install it automatically, which it does. And because when
I try to UPDATE it I get the thing that says no better driver can be found
than the one that is already installed or the one I am trying to install is
not a better match (or something like that).

I fail to see why you think I need to find a file called Read Me . . . . If
the card has already been installed, why do I need further explanation on
how to install it . . . especially when XP already does it without giving me
a choice.

At any rate, I have reformatted and reinstalled XP sp2. So far I am getting
no errors and everything seems to be working. Again, XP installed the syba
card without any problems and so far there have been no lock ups. Maybe
something was confused before, and a few more days of usage should let me
know for sure.
