Default Write CD

There was a time when I could pop a blank CD in the drive and a dialog box
would open giving my a few choices of what to do next. When I insert the
disk, the cursor changes to a small disk but then it returns to normal and
nothing happens.

I also can not write to the disk. It says "Incorrect function." (I used to
be able to)

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the two drives (both act
similarly).

Win XP SP2.

All clues would be appreciated.

Then here's my clue ;-)

Do you have Ghost 9 installed?
I had the same problem and I found the culprit was a Ghost's running
process.
I managed to have back the XP's autoplay and disc writing wizard without
having to uninstall Ghost. If this is also your case, let me know and I'll
report what I did.

GPEDIT.MSC at the Run command, look for Computer
Configuration then Administrative Templates/System, and right-click the
listing "Turn off Autoplay."

Default Re: Write CD

I checked both configuration entries and neither is configured ao autoplay
should be on. (But it is on because the cursor changes?)
