I have Windows XP Home Edition (SP2), I have partitioned my hard drive and
keep my data on a different partition to windows. When using the "Open" or "Save As" dialogue boxes there is a list of "Places" on the left of the box. This includes: Recent Files, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer & My Network Places. I would like to change these places so that instead of Recent files and My Documents I have access to a couple of folders on the second partition. I have read the details on the MSDN page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ialogboxes.asp which tells one which parts of the registry to edit, but it appears to be for XP Professional. I have looked at the registry on my machine and it doesn't have the right sections to it. Any ideas? |

It is called the Places bar.
You can use TweakUI, Edit the registry or if XP Pro, use System Policy Editor. Using TweakUI is probably the easiest if you have XP Home. See also... You can use the default values or you can choose a custom location to open when a common dialog box is opened.]] Common Dialog Boxes [[The common dialog boxes, such as the Save As dialog box, display the places bar on the left side. These are shortcuts to common folders, which make getting around much easier. By default, you see the History, Documents, Desktop, Favorites, and My Network Places folders there. Why do you need extra software for Office Places bars? Especially with
Office XP or later. Add or delete a shortcut from the My Places bar http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...890961033.aspx In this article Add a shortcut to the My Places bar Remove a shortcut to the My Places bar Rearrange shortcuts on the My Places bar Change the size of icons on the My Places bar Add a place to store your files http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...864981033.aspx How to Customize the Places Bar Word 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;205041 How to customize the My Places bar in the "Open" and "Save As" dialog boxes in Office XP programs http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;282087 How to customize the My Places bar in both the Open and the Save As dialog boxes in Office 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;826214 Customize the Places Bar in Office XP http://www.petri.co.il/customize_the..._office_xp.htm -- Hope this helps.
