copy protection errors for pc games

i tried to run a game which has a copy protection.
I have connected my laptop with an external cd/dvd drive because the IDE is
not working.
Unfortunatelly the game cannot be launched.
I was told that i had to disable the IDE in BIOS but i dont know how to do
this.
could anybody help me????
Any other suggestions about this problem???
