Mechwarrior4 help needed

i have all of the mech 4 versions and i have no problems with game play
except when i try to play online i get the following

1. server is running a newer/older version see www.mechwarrior4.com
2. cannot connect to game. network may be down or server may be gone.

i am running XP with all updates, i have all the patches for all of the
versions, and this happens in all three games. the zone updates, refreshes
and i can veiw the other options so i know the games are valid and there. i
am on a DSL connection and have set up the game for LAN setting with 128
connect speed.

any help so i can start my mercenary killing spree would be great!
