Default Can't change Sims 2 resolution

I can't get Sims 2 to operate with a resolution higher than 800x600.
My screen is normally set at 1280x1024. Only 800x600 is given as an
option where the graphics options can be selected in the game.
I have:
* Windows XP Home
* Intel 82845G 32 bit integrated graphics card (updated driver with the
most recent download)

I have tried as suggested by other postings (and in the read me file)
to add the following to the Sims shortcut target: (space)-r1024x768
but it still plays the game with a resolution of 800x600.

My graphics card is definitely compatible with the game. Any
suggestions as to how I can get it to run in a resolution higher than
800x600?

Default Re: Can't change Sims 2 resolution

Hi tbs,

You're right, that chipset is listed as "supported" on EA's website:
http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21 therefore if you
have patched your system drivers, and the game to their latests
versions, the screen resolution limitation _could_ likely be by design
if your system does not have a lot of RAM available, since Intel's
graphics chipsets need to borrow from the available system RAM
in order to render the images on the screen, the point being that
the higher you set the resolution, the higher the demand on your
system RAM will be. Have you considered buying a standalone
graphics card to enjoy PC gaming at it's fullest potential?
