Try following this, uninstalling the current situation of the game first:
Most of the "older" games will run perfectly well on Windows XP. Some need to use Compatibility Mode (details are in Help and Support), and this TechNet article will help you: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../lgcyapps.mspx Basically, what Compatibility Mode does is allow the older program to "think" it is being installed on the operating system for which it was designed. You also need to pay attention to the game's requirements, and some need to be installed using Compatibility starting with the installation itself by going to Start/Run/Browse and locating the install.exe or setup.exe file on the root of the CD. You can right-click that file, follow the pattern to use Compatibility Mode and have it install. After the install, make sure to update the program from the web site of the creator, then right-click the icon you'll use to launch the game and make sure the proper Compatibility settings are ready. You also need to make sure the proper display and color settings are selected. -- Chris H. what about dualbooting? if you have a win98 or me disc, you can set up your
hard drive by partitioning it into two and installing win98 or me to the C: drive, with winxp going to the D: drive. don't do winxp first or it won't work(critical system files get overwritten by win98) but no guarantees about me anyway. once i dualbooted with home and pro and it was a success "Chris H." wrote: > Try following this, uninstalling the current situation of the game first: > > Most of the "older" games will run perfectly well on Windows XP. That works, too. The older operating system should be installed to the
first partition, building up to whatever is the latest on the unit. One precaution, though. If you're on a purchased computer with an OEM "recovery" media set, they generally will not install to a D: or later drive. They have a tendency to install to a C: partition, wiping whatever happens to be there in the process. -- Chris H. In news:1136095093.165525.153460@g43g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com,
jim <jim2005@usa.com> had this to say: My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: > Ok, I finally got the game to load, did the compatability mode thing > and now I get a message saying 'incorrect version of windows, sorry, not > supported on windows NT'. > What can I do?Please be gentle,I'm kind of illiterate when it comes to > computers. > Many thanks in advance. > > JIM Jim, I can't be gentle but I can get it working for you if you'll take 10 or 15 minutes to read a help file and to learn to use the application. In all the years I've used it and recommended not one person has ever failed to get it to work for older games - even POS (point of sale not piece of ****) apps and database apps for/from various companies have been able to make use of this... Hi, What game is it, There was a known issue with System Shock 2 that was
giving the same error! Have you tried doing a google search on the game in question, When i tried with System Shock 2 I managed to find several sites, where gamers like our selfs have managed to modify the .exe files and install files and get the game to install and run under windows xp. I think a dual boot with the older win 98 can be more trouble than it is worth just to get a game to run.
