help with xp not launching user profiles

I recently installed McAfee internet security suite 2006 onto my dell
pc with XP sp1 and now cannot access any user profiles. When I attempt
to launch a user profile it begins opening and then closes, saving
settings message. This all occurred after cleaning 500+ infected files
in safe mode. Now I cannot access xp through safe mode or using a
normal startup.

Hard to say with all that's been happening in your system. See if this

First thing I'd do is delete McAfee.

Then load AVAST4 and AVG.

I also use Spy Sweeper, which I purchased on the two-year plan.

And I have my user profiles.
