I'm trying to install a 'Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000', but the installation
keeps failing when installing camera drivers and I get the message 'Device Removal Module has encountered a problem and needs to close' In case my installation CD was faulty I downloaded the installation software from the Logitect web site, but still get the same failure and message. I'm running XP Professional with SP2 and all updates. I've tried installing after a 'clean' boot and after clearing any .tmp files and I've tried uninstalling the parts of the software which have loaded, but can't do that either - I get a different and very complex failure message. Can anyone please help cure the problem? Thanks. Merlin |

Thanks. Merlin Did you make sure the camera was not attached to the computer before doing the initial install? During the process of the that first install it will then tell you to attach the camera. Otherwise contact Logitech tech support. -- Rock MS MVP Windows - Shell/User |

I installed one some time ago and it went flawlessly. Did you disconnect all other USB devices? Do you know that USB port is functional? Right click My Computer | Manage | Device Manager. Are there any devices with a yellow ?? -- Rock MS MVP Windows - Shell/User |

The installation process does not get as far as plugging in the hardware or
nominating a port. It stalls at the camera driver software installation. Initially it seems all is going well as the on-screen progress shows that the QuickCam software installs normally and it starts to install the camera driver, but then it swops to uninstalling a driver and crashes with the message I've already posted. It seems to me that there is a conflict between the operating system softwear and the Logitech camera driver software. Logitech still haven't responded, despite saying they wold get back to me within 1 business day! Logitech also sent a link to a newer driver patch for XP, which I think you'll have as well when they respond. The patch cleared up the issue, with the dll/registry, and the camera was easily read afterwards. There was a general conflict with the Codec, and it was also addressed in the patch. CJ |
