When I push the eject button on the drive, or right click in Explorer and
choose Eject, often the drive will not open. It makes a clunk noise, but will not open up. This happens even if there is no CD in it. Sometimes it will eject an inch or so, but then close up immediately. If I restart Windows, it usually will work ok for a while. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. No help. I have the exact same problem on two computers in different locations. Any ideas? |

I resolved it and have had no more issues with it since I replaced the CD Rom drive. hint hint. The other thing that will happen is if you mistakenly try to open the drive while it is reading/writing. Be sure the little led is off and that it has been off for several seconds before attempting to open the drive.. In short, I believe it's time to replace that puppy! And since I just got a brand new 40 X CD Burner for like $13.95 + shipping, it's not exactly like you can't afford to replace the drive. Check www.pricewatch.com Happy New Year! It happens even though there's no disk in the drive.
It's hard to imagine that it's a hardware problem when restarting Windows fixes it. And why would it start to open, then close up again? I have the same problem with a CD drive on one computer and a DVD drive on another.
