This is a new development I've never seen before. When I wake my comp. from
sleep, the computer spins up, but doesn't seem to get any further than turning on the fans. The screen initially doesn't come on and the hard drive reads for a few seconds, then stops. If I ctrl-alt-del it will snap into action. However, after waking completely, the screen goes black for about 1 second. This happens every 5 seconds or so. It's very regularly timed. Some info: This build has been together for over a year. Win XP SP1, Athlon xp 2500+, Shuttle AN35N Ultra (nVidia nForce 2). 1 GB (2x512) Corsair valueselect ram (dual channel). GeForce 6800 agp video card. I have made some recent changes: About 3 weeks ago I added the second stick of RAM, bringing it up to 1Gig. I didn't notice the issue at this time, but I may just not have been paying attention. They are in slots 1 and 3, so as to enable dual channel. If I put them in 2 and 3, dual channel will also work, and I haven't tried that yet as a fix. At that time, I had another video card in (FX5900) for which I also upgraded the drivers. It was around this time the issue started. I have recently changed the video card to the present 6800, but as I said, the issue appeared before the video card change. I have tried stripping the drivers as much as possible (regclean), removing all elements I could safely remove, to no effect. Hypothesis: Since waking from sleep requires loading data from RAM, I'm thinking that's the issue. However, other than this particular weirdness, I've noticed no other problems (no crashes, weird behavior, etc.) Thoughts? Thanks for any advice. -- Matt |
