I've run into a situation that is occuring on a large number of our XP
machines. We have over 300, and plan to have almost 500. The problem is that the rights are not working correctly in NTFS. http://www.acmenews.com/XPbug2.jpg http://www.acmenews.com/XPbug.jpg The first shows the rights to \\redi3319\c$\Program Files\Pegasus TransTech\Image Power\ It shows that EVERYONE and SYSTEM have FULL rights, and that these rights flow down to folders, subfolders, and files. The rights come from parent which is Pegasus Transtech in this case. The second file shows a file in \\redi3319\c$\Program Files\Pegasus TransTech\Image Power\ which has no explicit rights and is inherating it's rights from the directory it is in. The problem is that this doesn't not work. While it is configured to inherate rights, it has arbitrary rights that XP is grabbing from lord knows where. Insted of EVERYONE and SYSTEM having FULL rights, REDI3319\Administrators and SYSTEM has full rights where as USERS have only READ and execute. The problem is that the users need to be able to update this program. While launching it the program fails as it trys to update itself from the network. This is one example. We've been seeing this on Windows 2003 servers and other places on the workstations. Is there some patch to address this? |
