That's how I've been doing it Gerry. That's how the software prompts you to
do it. It asks you to plug it in after the driver installation. But that's where the whole thing goes awry. I get that error 80% of the way through the drive install. After I send the info to Microsoft and the window closes, the installation continues. Asks me to plug in the device and doesn't sense it. But then the XP programming takes over when it senses a new device being plugged in and begins a search for the installation software which it cannot find every time. Things that make you go hmmmmmm! LOL! I do the recommended function everytime until it gives me reason not to.
Like in these circumstances. Then I tell it where to go because I know that it is located there, and it still comes back with an unsuccesful search for the software. Sorry for the humor remark, but the only thing I can do short of formatting and re-installing the OS is laugh about this now. I was told by a separate source today to do a boot from CD-ROM System Recovery. All of this just for a dawg gone MP3 Player. But again...thanks for sticking with me on this! I do appreciate all your input!!!! -- Intermediate Level User "Gerry Cornell" wrote: > Jeff > > This line leaves me floundering "Things that make you go hmmmmmm! Yes...other devices work properly on the USB ports I have been using. I even went out and bought a new 2.0 USB 4 port PCI card and installed it. Then went through the entire install process with the same results. The USB port drivers for the factory installed USB ports are provided by Microsoft and dated 7/1/2001, version 5.1.2600.0. -- Intermediate Level User "Gerry Cornell" wrote: > Jeff > > Does the USB port work properly with other devices? > > Have you tried another USB port? > > What drivers are installed for the USB port? > > -- > > Hope this helps. > > Gerry > ~~~~ > FCA > Stourport, England > > Enquire, plan and execute > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > > "CrazyDaze" <lizsjeff@msn.com> wrote in message > news:7547F1DE-9B8E-413D-BD6B-4A71167DA528@microsoft.com... > >I do the recommended function everytime until it gives me reason not to. > > Like in these circumstances.
