Default _msr.exe error

When I want to play a game program, I get the above message and "the program
needs to close". Reinstalling doesn't solve the problem. The program used to
work in the past (Dell Lattitude C800 XPSP2). No other problems on this
computer found. Do I have to repair Windows? Thanks for any advise.

Hi

What game is it? Have you tried running the game with your AV program
disabled?

Hi

I get a 404 error on that link. I'll try it again later. Anything to do
with a virus?

Hi
Will
This is what "David Lipman" Replied

It is associatiated with a Agobot variant.

1) Download
the following three items...

McAfee Stinger

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Trend Sysclean Package

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Create
a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or
the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New
Folder")

Download SYSCLEAN.COM and place it in that directory.
Download
the Trend Pattern File by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example;
lpt383.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place
the contents in the same directory as
SYSCLEAN.COM.

2)
Disable System Restore

http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDoc...SysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe
Mode and shutdown as many applications as possible
4) Using
both the Trend Sysclean utility and Stinger, perform a Full Scan
of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors found
5)
Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your
platform using both.
6) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply
any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use
suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) Create a new
Restore point

* * * Please report back your results * *

Maybe and maybe not. It could be a Red Herring.

WORM_AGOBOT.RT --
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...T%2ERT&VSect=T
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
CurrentVersion\Run
MSR = “msr.exe”

msr.exe not _msr.exe

I have searched many virus libraries and "_msr.exe" does not come up.

However Google does indicate it is a known issue associated with a game, "LegoStunt Rally"
http://www.ntcompatible.com/cdetail10800.html

Which provides the solution for...

'_MSR.EXE' has encountered a problem and needs to close.
http://ww2.focusmm.co.uk/supportresu..._code=ESS48 2

Which matches the original post problem.
