created a fastwiz diskette on a sp2 machine and took it to a 98 machine
, gathered all the files and settings, then went to another newly installed sp2 machine and ran fast only to get The location you specified does not contain stored informatIon. checked some postings and found that they have to be the same version of windows, ie the one that created the fastwiz diskette has to be the same version as the one the files and settings are being transfered to guess what THEY ARE !!! then found another posting about using some FASTCONV.EXE program. guess what I DID !! once again, here in the enterprise, something that is supposed to work doesnt.now we will probably have to restore the files and settings to the machine that created the fastwiz diskette and then copy the files manually to the new machine. thanx for another days work. |

ive answered my own question, i updated the new machine to the latest
using windows update and now the fast program can read the usmt2.umc folder and it transfered all the files and settings, that it gathered, from the 98 machine. i was really excited when, at the end, it said that it couldnt migrate the folders referenced by message rules in outlook express, i thought no problem, ill just re setup those folders. upon further examintation, i found that it transfered the email settings alright, minus the password, but not the data itself that was in the files. like inbox, sent items etc. it also didnt transfer the address book for outlook express either. i thought the name was files and settings transfer wheres the files ? |
