Hi,
It depends on the writer(s) of the antivirus program. If it is not recognized, all you can do is go into the Security Center and tell it you have an AV program that you will monitor yourself. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "RuNext" <RuNext@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:05389CC7-F6BB-42D9-928F-5FC67B53B697@microsoft.com... > Does anyone why my "Windows Security Center" does not detect my anti-virus > software? . . . Thanks Rick . . .
What I don't understand is why Microsoft would promote these anti-virus programs when their "Windows Security Alert" program doesn't detect it . . . It looks like they only care if you have windows update running along with your firewall . . . I guess because Microsoft doesn't have an anti-virus program they don't really care what you use . . . then why have that stupid monitor "Virus protection not Found"? http://www.microsoft.com/security/pa.../antivirus.asp It's just that it gets me upset not to see all three alerts under green status (Firewall, Automatic Updates, and Virus Protection) If their program can supposely detect an anti-virus program . . . why isn't it user-friendly? Whay can I direct the AI to look at what I have installed? Is it really that hard to do? This windows-monitoring-program thing has been out for a while . .. . come on ! ! ! ! Do they really only care about their software or am I missing something here . . . Why doesn't it detect my McAfee anti-virus software or my Norton utilities? -- Cuz'' it''s just me ! ! ! http://spaces.msn.com/members/circlesinthetrees/ "Rick "Nutcase" Rogers" wrote: > Hi, > > It depends on the writer(s) of the antivirus program. You're blaming the wrong party - the security center has been out for some
time and the specifics needed to be recognized are available to the av program writers. Whether or not they choose to use them is not in the realm of Microsoft's control. oh . . . thanks Rick . . . I thought it was Microsoft's because I got the
"Windows Security Center" from them, about 3 windows updates ago . . . well . .. . I hope you get what I mean . . . I've had my Compaq Presario 700 laptop since like 4 years ago . . . with no 'hic-ups', always updated with "Microsoft" and even though I have cable modem I've been lucky in avoiding viruses, trojans and stuff . . . in fact whenever it seems that I'll have something bothering my laptop, following exactly what Microsoft and the antivirus software recommends, it always works. Now for the past year I've been adding the anti-spyware programs . . . convinient yet user-friendly like Microsoft's AntiSpyWare and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal. Hi,
The security center was added as part of SP2. > Does your "Windows Security Center" have all 3 greenlights? No, at least not on this machine. Actually AV is green (Grisoft's AVG), firewall (none in use - don't ask why) is orange, and automatic updates is disabled (for another reason I can't get into). -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "RuNext" <RuNext@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7BB16CC8-4B6E-410A-A1BB-794713C407EC@microsoft.com... > oh . . . thanks Rick . . .
