Default DVD/CD player not working on laptop

I bought a new Gateway 532-7330GZ laptop in mid-September and I've never been
able to get the DVD/CD player to work. I've tried both DVDs and CDs and
neither kind works no matter if I put in a music CD, CD-ROM, blank CD or
movie DVD. I see the drive letter in My Computer and I can double click on
the drive icon and a blank window will open. In the Device Manager the name
of the DVD player is TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A. I've tried going to
Samsung's website to download a driver but I don't see any available for this
model. I've always had this problem and have left it alone since then
because I don't use the DVD player much but now I want to use it more often.
Does anyway have any suggestions to help me? Thanks.
