Default mp3 player not recognised

I have posted on this before , and after all the help i have recieved from
various sources, still cant get the damn thing to be recognised by windows,
after many hours trying differnet things , and i have tried it in another pc
belonging to a friend, it does same thing , plug it in and get " usb device
not recognised" when i investigate under device manager, it says no drivers
are installed, but i am on widows xp, i shouldnt need drivers, the drivers on
the cd are for windows 98, so i think this is the problem, why is windows xp
needing for drivers for this device ?

Hi,

If you tried it on another machine and it does the same thing, then the
problem is the device - not the system. It may be defective.
