Default Bleeping screen!

The speakers built into my screen have started to bleep at 3 minute
intervals. The PC is presumably trying to tell me something but there is no
indication as to what.
I have totally powered down then up again but it still continues. The bleep
does not also come via the audio card which of course I have control over.
Any help on this will be appreciated.

You motherboard manual will probably tell you what it means.

This is an audible code coming from your motherboard to let you know
there is a serious hardware problem. You would need to look up the beep
codes for your motherboard to interpret the code. If you don't have a
motherboard manual, look on the m/b mftr.'s website. If you have an OEM
machine (HP, Dell, Compaq, etc.) call their tech support.
