windows installer appears when doing "start,search,find files"

Can anyone help me? I have tried at least 7 different fixes. When I do a
"start, search" to search for a file,windowsinstaller pops up then I get the
"microsoft send error report"..then, I send the report and the window closes.
I cannot get past this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I even upgraded to the windows
installer 3.1 and noluck with this. This is a Windows xp sp2 system.
Please email me your answer if possible - this is my first time using this
newsgroup. I am afraid I will not find my answer. Thank you!!!

Windows installer only appears when I do a "start, search, find files" It
does not appear every time a program is started as in the article below. I
did the clean up utility, but do not want to remove the programs and don't
know which ones to remove that could be causing the problem..still stuck..any
other suggestions?
