Default Mouse pointer hidden

Just encountered a strange problem. A new window opened on a site and its in
front of my mouse pointer i.e. the pointer disappears behind the new window
instead of moving over it. Means I can't close it by clicking on the X etc.
I can close down altogether but how can I get out of it otherwise?

Martynz
