Nothing is safe. That is why any knowledgeable person will tell you to
backup - backup - backup!

You could have a power outage in the middle of the partition work. Your cat
could jump on the keyboard. Your dog could be chasing the cat and end up
pulling the plug out of the wall. You get the picture.

Backup - then work with the partitions. Version 8.01 is as safe as it gets
and I have never had any problems - and I resize dozens of partitions per
month.

If partition magic was not safe to use, i'm sure they would not sell it!

I use it and so do many others, it's good and safe. (But nothing is
guaranteed)

There is no guarantee for this. You should always have a full and
complete backup.

Another program that does this is BootItNG.

Mehrad

You are asking a question but not really explaining the problem as you have
already decided that the best solution is to resize the partition!

How large is your windows partition and how much free space is there in
that partition? Are you short of free disk space in another partition?

Many problems where free disk is inconveniently placed can be solved
without resizing partitions.

Hope this helps.

It's hard for me to think of a statement with which I would disagree more.
*Many* products, of all kinds--not just software--are sold, and are unsafe.

The history of the marketplace has countless examples of this.

That last parenthesis is the key point. If you believe in its safety you
will be successful 90-something percent of the time.If you recognize that
something can always go wrong, you will realize that nothing is 100% safe,
and you will take appropriate steps--like backup--to protect yourself.

If WindowsXP wasn't entirely bug free, I'm sure they would not sell it!

I spent a couple of weeks struggling with Partition Magic, trying to
resize a partition. In the end I finally torched the drive and started
over. You may have better luck. Trying this again later on a different
computer with BootIt NG did work, I almost fainted at that point. But then
more and more I expect software to be crap, based on decades of experience.

Mehrad

Why do you want to make your system dual booting? It makes a computer set
up very complex. What benefits are you hoping to gain?

I ran Windows 98 with Windows XP for some time. I gained little or no
benefit
and tied up hard disk space for no good reason. There are situations where
it is necessary but again look at the alternatives first.

Why install Windows 2000? It is now 5 years out of date.

I am not clear exactly what you mean by Windows 2003. Please explain?
