I had the exact same problem (downloaded desktop weather from the weather
channel) and lost my explorer click sound. I just spent an hour trying to figure out how to reset. Your post helped me immediately although the click sound is a little different and I noted on my wife's computer the complete and start navigation sounds are not set (and she gets the click - this was part of my troubleshooting) - regardless, it works.
