I am running a Dell 4600, and after upgrading Windows XP with SP2, my
attached Maxtor One-Touch USB/Firewire External Hard Drive does not operate correctly. Although the computer recognizes it as a USB Mass Storage Device, the drive is not accessible. According to Maxtor Support and Microsoft Article 885464 this may have to do with the 0hcil1394.sys driver file. Microsoft further indicates that a hotfix is available to update that file to version 5.1.2600.2524. My computer is running version 5.1.2600.2180. Microsoft online support indicates I should contact my computer manufacturer for assistance on this issue, but Dell typically supports hardware under warranty. So, my only recourse may be paying Microsoft for support assistance. Any ideas on how to obtain the Microsoft hotfix? |

The update you want has been superceded by another publicly available
hotfix. You can download and install it from the below link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en -- Jason Tsang - Microsoft MVP Find out about the MS MVP Program - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx "Chris W." <ChrisW@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:14572603-1183-4891-8BD3-C9CA9C8DA1A7@microsoft.com... >I am running a Dell 4600, and after upgrading Windows XP with SP2, my > attached Maxtor One-Touch USB/Firewire External Hard Drive does not > operate > correctly. Also note that hotfixes are supplied by MS to retail and OEM users, and there is no cost for them as long as your only question is about getting that particular hotfix. You do have to make a call to get a particular hotfix. That info is included in the knowledge base article where the hotfix is mentioned. -- Rock MS MVP Windows - Shell/User |
