Default Multiple start-up entries

Hi,

I have a problem with my backup program: it runs with Windows, but loads
twice, so there are two instances of it open down near the clock.

I tried using my start-up monitoring programs to disable one of the entries,
but it disables both instead. Finally, MS AntiSpyware told me that one of
them was in the "All Users" startup folder, while the other was in the "User
Profile" startup folder.

I would like to know, firstly, how to disable programs being installed into
both startup folders, and secondly, how other people manage programs being
installed into the different start menu folders. I would like to make a
regular backup of my start menu items, but with everything all over the
place, I find it very hard to do.

Any ideas?

Panda,

If you right-click the Start button and select 'Explore all Users', then
expand your User name's 'Start Menu' folder, you can now compare which
links are opening from where.

Tip:

After setting up your Startup folder (msconfig), navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run ,
right-click 'Run' and 'Export' your startups to your drive for easy return
after a reformat.

Is there a way to make only one startup folder? Can I somehow disable my
username's start menu and just use all users start menu?

Hi,

No, both are system default startup points. You can move the icons all into
one or the other or even delete them, but the contents of both folders will
load at boot.

Just remove the entry from one of the startup folders. Use a startup
program monitor to see where things are loading from. Here is one such
utility:

Windows XP Startup Programs Tracker

I looked through all of the startup folders on the computer, but only the
"All Users" one has this program in it. I also looked in the registry where
Drew reffered, but it wasn't listed anywhere...
It's still opening twice when I boot...

Help please!

Try that program I gave the link for, the startup program tracker.

I already have quite a few different startup monitoring/tracking programs
installed, and all of them remove both entries whenever I try to disable just
one. It would seem that both entries are being seen as the one, somehow...

You haven't said what the program is. If it's a third party program try
uninstalling reinstalling.

The program is SyncBack. I was having the same problems with the free
version, then upgraded to the trial SE version. I uninstalled the old version
first, then reinstalled the newer version, same problem...
