Default Repair-Install of OS

Hi,

In an effort to improve the availability of WMP 10 on my computer (it
was only available for one user with the other account showing an
'internal application error' on attempted launch), I carried out a
repair-install of WinXP using Michael Stevens' instruction as guide.
Everything went fine other than that quite a number (possibly 200)
files failed to load. These all had extensions of the form .xy_ where
xy was predominantly dl. In the case of about 10 of these files, a
message was provided saying that Windows may not work properly if this
file is not loaded. However, as no alternative was provided, I had no
option but to continue without it.
Examples of the files that didn'y copy were cmprops.dl_ and ncprov.dl_.

Should I be worried and, if so, what can I do?

A further error occurred during the repair-install. This was described
as a COM+ setup error with an error code of 0x8007007f. The error
message reported that the following library failed to load:
c:\windows\system32\catsrv.dll

Once again, is this likely to prove catastrophic?

Once everything had loaded up, the machine appeared to operate well and
no data loss has, as yet, been detected by me. In addition, some minor
operating annoyances were removed. However, I have not yet been able to
download SP2 nor any of the recent security hotfixes for the OS due,
apparently, to a problem on the MS websites.
Nevertheless, the WMP 10 situation just has not improved. Indeed, it
has gotten worse in that it's not available on either of the two user
accounts now. Both now produce the 'internal application error'
message.
Before the repair-install, I had found that the start>run>regsvr32
jscript.dll commands (also for vbscript.dll) succeeded only on the
admin user account but FAILED on the other. Now, it succeeds on both
but both display 'internal application error mesages' when WMP 10 is
launched.

I have also tried to both remove WMP 10 from the computer before and
after the repair-install. But the remove option is not available and a
roll-back to WMP 9 is offered. (which is strange as other MS literature
claims that only WMP 10 is available for WinXP and not WMP 9) However,
attempts to load this failed.

I have read widely on this particular issue and although it seems to be
quite common, there does not appear to be any straightforward fix.

I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions anybody might
have.

Thanks
Kilbane
