My father's PC has 2 hard drives. One attached through the ribbon cable (C
drive) and other through the raid (red cable). He wants to add a third hard drive to act as a drive to save/backup his data. The new drive is Hitachi Deskstar which I beleive is IDE. Can anyone please tell us how to attach this to the system, there is a place for it in the CPU. Please explain every step to be taken as I have not done such an excersise before. Thanks |

Read the instruction leaflet that came with the hard drive.

There were no instructions received with the drive, that is reason for my
question. Thanks anyway. www.hitachigst.com and pick the drive you have.
All the information is there. You have not supplied enough information than what would get you more than a cursory reply. There are so many variables, that anything more would just get you lost. A better suggestion would be to take system and drive to the people you bought the drive from and have them install and test it. The "raid" drive is almost certainly a SATA drive. A RAID installation involves multiple hard drives that are configured to appear as one single drive. Does the ribbon cable connected to the C: drive have a second, unused connector on it? What is the make and model of the C: drive? It may require a change in the configuration jumper setting. The answers to the above questions should allow us to give specific detailed instructions regarding this setup. Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C.
