I suppose so, but until the OP responds to such questions we just won't
know for sure. I tried to address the OP question. You raised another,
and rightly so, might I add. Sorry I didn't ask about the need to
disable the Win FW in the 1st place, would have been more prudent of me
to do so, in retrospect.

Have you more than one connetion in Network Connections?

Thanks to all who responded!

It seems that I'm a little late with answering as there a slight
difference in time as I'm sitting in Europe.

I really just would like to have control over my machine and I simply
ant to stop the firewall, whatsoever the reason is, I just want to stop
it. There are many scenarios I could list here but for now I just want
to stop that bloody fu... firewall.

- The firewall ist definitely still active,checked with: netsh firewall
show config

- The reg file has been merged succesfully, I've checked the entries
made with regedt

- There is no other firewall running at all

- Yes there are about 4 different network connections but only 1 active
the others are disabled.

Try stopping and disableing the windows firewall/internet
connection sharing service in computer management, services.

Hi Steve,
well here definitely something has changed!

I now unable to open the FW settings dialog anymore....

but the FW still seems to be actice in the Security Center.
