Can I switch sound off in xp home but still have it available if I play Cds
etc, its mainly the start up sounds that I dont want. thanks -- |

[Sounds and..] (Sounds Tab) Program Events Windows - One by one select Events then in the sounds box select whatever sound you want (which can include "None"). Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices.
