This post is made after reading as many posts on this subject 1st. However,
it seems there is at least one other symptom, in my situation, that is a bit diffrent from the others that I read. I believe that my registry is not clsed because some application(s) is(are) "stuck" at startup and continue being stuck until shutdown. After loading at least one update on my pc, at least two applications no longer show in the systray. They show as processes running however. And of course, I have the famous 1517 warning regarding the registry. These two symptoms are definitely linked. So.... can someone help me with this? I think I need to have a way to trace what is going on at startup. Is there a way to track of log it? Am I on the right track? |

UPHCleanup Service removes this error. It is caused by a service
running under the user credentials instead of system credentials thus giving an error when the system tries to unload the user profile. This service works by handling the problem instead of just waiting for timeout. If my memory serves me correct. If you see a lot of Userenv/1517, Userenv/1524 or Userenv/1500 errors in the
Event Viewer, download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. This decreased my shutdown time a bunch. Takes any where from 10 to 20 seconds to shutdown. C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe is added. The User Profile Hive Cleanup service gets added to Services and uphclean.exe wiil run all the time. I am one that doesn't like to have any extra services running, but I am sold on UPHClean. Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en UPHClean v1.6d readme.txt http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...5ac/readme.txt You can screw around and try to trace the problem if you want. "Windows saved user ROADWARRIOR\The Hobbit registry while an
application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account."
