Hi gang,
I've got statup item Itmsg, command Itmsg.exe9, as a startup item. Do you know what it is, and whether it should be a startup item? -- -- DF |

Hi Wes,
Thank you for the reply. I recently moved and now have DSL high-speed internet access (used to have cable). Maybe the new setup requires Itmsg. At any rate, it's good to know that it probably isn't a bad thing! -- -- DF "Wesley Vogel" wrote: > See if this sheds any light. > http://computing.net/windowsme/wwwbo...rum/32651.html > > -- > Hope this helps. Hi Wes,
1) "Location" of Startup Item "Itmsg," ac. to System Configuration Utility: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run 2) Right clicking doesn't get anything in System Configuration Utility (other than highlighting the entire line of Itmsg, which is the result of left-clicking, as well). I searched for Itmsg or Itmsg.exe9 on my computer and didn't get any hits.. -- -- DF "Wesley Vogel" wrote: > DF, > > What folder is Itmsg.exe9 in? > > If you right click Itmsg.exe9 and select Properties, who is the company > listed? > > -- > Hope this helps. DF,
I meant to right click the file itself. Maybe it does not exist on your machine and the startup reference is an orphan. Do a Search on your machine for Itmsg. See this for searching for Hidden files. HOW TO: Search For Hidden Or System Files In Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;302347 Also see if Itmsg is running. Open Task Manager... Ctrl + Shift + Esc | Click the Processes tab | Click on the Image Name Header to alphabetize and look for Itmsg -- Hope this helps. Let us know. Hi Wes,
Itmsg is not on machine, hidden or "non-hidden." Itmsg is not running, ac. to TYask Manager. So, maybe the startup reference is, as you suggested ,an orphan. I wonder why it wouldn't have been cleaned up? -- DF "Wesley Vogel" wrote: > DF, > > I meant to right click the file itself. DF,
There many reasons why this could be. Chief among them is poorly written software. Where did Itmsg start from? %allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup or %userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup or C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Or from the registry? Most likely one of these two... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run Did you disable Itmsg using msconfig? Why don't you get an error message if Itmsg is a startup item and it does not exists on your machine? Many enquiring minds want to know. ;-) -- Hope this helps. Let us know.
