Default Re: Defragmenter no longer works

A person may need both of these services if the partitions are formatted as
dynamic disks.

What Are Dynamic Disks and Volumes?
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...9ba901033.mspx

Or if an external drive that gets removed and re-installed all the time. I
don't know, I don't have anything like that.

[[Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service is only used when doing Disk
Management. This service is started only when configuring a drive or
partition or when a new drive is detected.]]

[[Logical Disk Manager is only used when doing Disk Management and if the
partitions are formatted as dynamic disks. Logical Disk Manager Watchdog
Service that detects the appearance/disappearance of hard drives and the
partitions they contain.]]
http://smallvoid.com/tweak/winnt/ser....html#DMSERVER

[[Logical Disk Manager Detects and monitors new hard disk drives and sends
disk volume information to Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service for
configuration. If this service is stopped, dynamic disk status and
configuration information may become out of date. If this service is
disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
*If needed, a Manual setting will allow this service to start and stop when
not needed.

Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service Configures hard disk drives and
volumes. The service only runs for configuration processes and then stops.
*Required by the MMC Console for dynamic volumes. ]]

Swap drive or have removable drives? Set to automatic. Manual otherwise.]]
