When I click to open an application, the first windows starts to open and
then just closes. Example: double click "Word" icon, word logo screen
appears and then windows closes. I have run virus and adware/spyware scans
with updated dat files and even connected drive to another system as second
drive and run scans. Anybody got any ideas?

If you have MS Office, run the "detect and repair" option.

This was MS Works with Word 2000 and I have completely uninstalled and
reinstalled these apps. Also have another non-Micorsoft program that does
the same thing.

Do you have the Google Desktop Search installed? If you do, uninstall it
and see if that makes everything work again.
