As recommended here I got Laplink Gold 12.0 so I could transfer data
between my desktop and laptop computers. After installing Laplink and connecting with the silver cable that was provided with the program, neither computer recognizes the other. I thought I should be able to easily connect them without additional settings but evidently I was wrong. Any advice? I'm running Windows XP on both computers and having Laplink running on both. I'm new to this so am probably missing something although I did follows the instructions to the letter. Pat |

I don't know why you spent so much money for Laplink when an expenditure of
about $10 would get you the requisite crossover cable. You then use FREE MSN Messenger (installed on each computer) to transfer over the files. I do it all the time when I am repairing computers. A 100 meg file will transfer in about 2 minutes. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! Now that is a pretty bold statement. Personally I would have qualified
it a little. Something like, BLUE yes, YELLOW no, and SILVER (OP's cable of choice) I don't know. I know serial (BLUE) works, and parallel (YELLOW) doesn't at least not later than Win ME, and I have never used USB (SILVER) back-to-back (box or no box). However I would suggest that a close read of pages 81, 82 & 152, 153 of the big orange book might help. You're right, I should have left myself an out.
