I am using a Dell 4600 pc and the mouse that came with it needs to be
replaced.I am considering an optical mouse that has no mouse ball that gets
dirty and skips.
I'm just wondering how this new mouse works and will I need some optical
receptor for it to work?

Just plug it in, if any drivers are supplied install them.

No;you don't need any optical receptor.Just plug in.You may have to
install the driver.To get the latest driver,visit:-

Thanks for your quick response.I had some worries that the mouse wouldn't
work on my pc because of the optical capabilites.Glad I was wrong.

Throw your mouse pad away, the optical mice work best on a hard flat
surface.

I would strongly urge against *ANY* Microsoft hardware...but their optical
mice in particular.
Drivers are quite buggy, and the build quality of their mice leave much to
be desired.
In my own personal experience, the best mice are by Logitech.

Why? I have used a USB optical mouse from MS for years and never had
a single problem with it. Still going strong and probably close to 3
years old now.

No special software needed either. The drivers for it are built into
XP and you do not need to use the intellimouse software for it if you
do not want to. I will agree that the intellimouse software is pretty
bad, but using the standard drivers in XP the mouse works just fine
and all functions of it work just fine too.

I am also using MS USB Optical mouse for years and without having any
problem.
