Default Alarms

I have an annoying alarm sounding from the computer and no-one seems to be
able to help. I don't know much about computers and everyone says it's so
easy but I'm finding it such a nightmare! This alarm keeps sounding and I
can't stop it. When I go to 'help' it seems I need to go through a myraid of
god knows what only to end up more confused than before! How do I stop this
damn alarm from sounding! I just can't stop it! 'Help' says SIMPLY go to
the alarms tab on the power options but what if there is NO alarms tab on the
power options? Start>Control Panel>Power Options but no alarms tab...only
Power Schemes, Advanced, Hibernate and UPS. Meanwhile I'm listening to this
annoying sound which comes on only from time to time. It will sometimes stop
after a few seconds but repeat itself throughout the time the computer's in
use. Now, at this moment it has been sounding for an hour...that's how long
it's taken me to find out how to ask for help. I did contact Microsoft once
before but they were useless and told me to contact my provider, whoever the
hell that is. Aaaarrrrgggghhh!!!

The only alarm I really know is the one that's part of the motherboard and
sounds if and when the CPU overheats.... eventually the PC will shut down to
prevent the CPU committing suicide by cooking itself.

Other than that I'm not sure which alarm you are referrring to.

Ok..so..if I have this alarm sounding (that your're talking about) how do I
turn it off? How do I fix it? Do other people listen to this alarm for
hours on end until the CPU eventually shuts down?

If the alarm is the CPU overtemp warning, you need to get whatever is
causing your system to overheat fixed. Just turning it off is like putting
black tape over the oil light in your car.

You need to take it to someone who can diagnose/fix it for you.

However, we are just guessing that it's the temperature warning. At least
tell us what make and model the PC is, under what circumstances the alarm
sounds, and when it goes away.

Good luck!

It's a AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ with WindowsXP Home Edition 2002 Service pack
2. The alarm usually sounds when I'm on the internet and when I play a game
on a site, like, My Way Games. Sometimes the alarm will stop and start
sporadically and other times it will stay on until I close the sites I'm on
though I'm still connected. Thanks in advance

The alarm is not a part of the Windows operating system, so looking for help
in the help section will be futile.

Open the manual that came with your computer or motherboard and see what the
book has to say about alarms. If no joy, contact the manufacturer of your
computer or motherboard - before you destroy your computer.
