I have a problem with my ACer travelmate 4000 not reading any type of CD
(music or program) on the dvd rw. It will read DVD but not the CD variety. I have uninstalled the driver and hardware and re-booted the machine to no avail. Windows update cannot find a newer driver than the one I currently have installed. The laptop tries to open the CDs but cannot achieve it. It clicks and thats about it. On my computer the DVD drive does not register any cd when there is one in place. Any ideas or will it be a case of a replacement dvd rw component. Thanks -- Bob |

A smilar thing happened to me recently on my Sony Vaio laptop. It is within
the warranty period. I phoned Sony and after some tests they took back the machine and replaced the DVD/CD drive. It sounds to me as though you have a failure of hardware.
