Default Repairs after a virus attack

My son recently went to a Lan party (he removed my SP2 and security to get
the lan connection working)and got a virii!.I managed eventually got them
cleaned out but had to overwrite the OS.
This created new admins etc .How do I get access to the old doc and settings
folders where I have stored quite a few files I want access to.

If you overwrote the OS, you pretty much overwrote everything and your
previous files are gone.

You're post isn't really clear. What do you mean by overwrite the
system? How did you do this? If the files are there and it's giving
you an error about access denied then it may just be an issue of
permissions. See this link for how to take ownership:

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421

If the issue is something different then please provide more information
on what you did and what is not working.
