Hi,
I went to startup my computer as usual this morning and I received a message that my video card cable was not connected properly, so I turned off my system and made sure everything was plugged in securely. My computer started as normal, then I got this message before Windows XP loaded my desktop... ------------------------------------------------- Explorer.exe- unable to locate component ------------------------------------------------- (x) <---RED X This application failed to start because CRYPTUI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. __________________________________________________ __________ I have Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack 2 Any suggestions? Should I just insert my Win XP Install CD and perform a REPAIR? Thanks, Mike |

I'd also like to add that I don't want to lose any data, software, etc.
I was in the process of backing up my files last night...no surprise this bump in the road had to come along! Thanks, Mike "MikeFadd" wrote: > Hi, > > I went to startup my computer as usual this morning and I received a message > that my video card cable was not connected properly, so I turned off my > system and made sure everything was plugged in securely. 2 things:
#1) I attempted to perform a REPAIR INSTALLATION to try and fix the problem and NOTHING happened. Everything is exactly the same...the 'CRYPTUI.dll not found' message comes up, where my desktop doesn't load. #2) I tried Chas' recommendation...."Start>Run> sfc/scannow" -Since I cannot log into Windows, I attempted to start in SAFE MODE -when attempting SAFE MODE, I received the 'CRYPTUI.dll' message again. -I also attempted to run SAFE MODE w/COMMAND PROMPT -the command prompt came up and I typed in 'sfc/scannow' and got this: :::Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files. The specific error code is 0x0000006ba [The RPC server is unavailable]::: So, that's where I'm at right now. The above suggestion didn't work, and the repair install didn't work. I cannot start Windows in SAFE MODE under Administrator or my personal name..... I don't want to lose any data either. Any suggestions? I'm not sure what else I could possibly try. Is there somewhere I can download the CRYPTUI.dll file from and somehow
put it onto my computer? I don't know how I'd do this though, because I can't even start the system. -Mike "MikeFadd" wrote: > 2 things: > > #1) I attempted to perform a REPAIR INSTALLATION to try and fix the problem > and NOTHING happened. Hey Chas,
I really appreciate you sticking with me here. When I said that nothing happened after the repair install....here's what happened.... The Win XP Pro CD went through the repair install which took about 15 minutes. It said that everything was successful. Upon restarting my computer, the same error message concerning CRYPTUI.dll came up. That's what I meant when I said nothing happened...pertaining to the original issue still not being resolved after attempting the repair install. As for the sfc / scannow feature, I negelcted to put a space before and after the sfc and scannow. The following then came up on my screen in cmd.exe: ------------------------------------------- /SCANNOW /SCANONCE /SCANBOOT /REVERT /PURGECACHE /CACHESIZE=x (this was under SAFE MODE COMMAND PROMPT for starting up since I cannot enter into WINDOWS under SAFE MODE....the following line appears...) C:\Documents and Settings\Mike> *****here I typed /SCANNOW****** then received this message: '/SCANNOW is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So, that's where I'm at right now. I'd like to give this scan thing a try and see if it does the trick. Any suggestions? -Mike "Chas" wrote: > > "MikeFadd" <MikeFadd@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:5AFF9FAD-3882-4C6B-89B1-3F8FA5B3646A@microsoft.com... > > Is there somewhere I can download the CRYPTUI.dll file from and somehow > > put it onto my computer? Boot to Safe Mode with Command prompt 2. Close Command Prompt "just click the top right hand x" 3. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up the Task Manager 4.Click File > New Task (Run) 5. Type In "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore\rstrui.exe" without the Quotes "presuming C: is your boot drive" 6. OK 7.Check Restore to an earlier time> Next "then choose a restore point prior to the time you had trouble" Chas |
