Heather

It sounds like you are stopping automatic compaction when you close
Outlook Express. Unfortunately this is one way to cause corruption of
folders.dbx. You have to allow it complete.

Automatic compaction is instigated by the system after Outlook Express
has closed 100 times. Allowing compaction to complete resets the
counter, whereas if compaction is stopped the counter is not reset.

It is a stupid idea introduced by Microsoft to encourage compaction.
It was intended to replace another silly idea -Compact messages in
background.

Many Outlook Express users are frustrated by this feature.

Why would you say that. I make a point of taking on people who spread untruths. Someone didn't challenge the morons this person listened too and we got an extra moron in the world. If you allow them to get away with spreading untruth it affects other simple minded people. They see the untruths not being challenged and start believing it to be true.

This year is my 10th anniversary of finding the newsgroup (in about a months time). We have had these claims the whole bloody time.

I guess the morons you describe must also write for InfoWorld, PC Magazine,
Microsoft Press, Brady Press, and a host of others which publish articles
and books on programming. When these people see evidence of the problem
right in front of them, what do you think they're mistaking it for?

You haven't been able to find any examples. And journalists have no credibility here. They read your dribbles here and report it as fact. After all the idiot jerry pournelle wrote an article in 1995 or 96 on how to edit the registry files direct. He had not ever heard of Regedit. Is this one of your authoritive sources? I can't tell you the last year I read a computer magazine. They are filled with lies masquarading as fact.

I read idiots like Steve McConnell, Herbert Schildt, Marco Cantu and Charles

If you've never heard of any of them, then you are lying. You are not a
programmer. You've just let all the air out of everything you've said today.

Why would you think I read anything, other than the PSDK, about computers? If I am going to read, and I do read a lot, I will be reading about economics, military history, social policy, and political science. I don't read idiots and only idiots write about computers. I don't even read computer stories in the paper. But I do correspond from time to time with senior MS programmers and also the MacIntosh designer.
