I have 3 computers I am trying to network and have been having difficulty
because the various screens of 2 of the machines act differently. To me this is confusing efforts to resolve connection problems. So far I have only been working with the first 2, but as you can see the versions are slightly differant on each of the three machines. Can anyone explain the differance in the three versions and advise if it is possible for me to get them all the same. Example: When I try to set up a folder or drive for sharing on the first two and I place the cursor on the name of the folder or drive in windows explorer and then right click and select sharing and security the two resulting screens are differant. One has a permissions button and the other does not. Since I am getting an error message stating that I lack permissions to access a resource when I try to access the shared folders on one from the other but have no problem going the other way, it stands to reason the the permissions button might come into play. In the help section when I click on about Windows, I see the following: IBM Thinkpad T43P (Windows came with system) Version 5.1(build 2600.xpsp.05031-1521:Service Pak 2) Copyright@1981-2001 Micosoft Corporation Compaq Evo N800c (windows came with system) Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_0dr.050301-1519:Service Pack 2) Copyright@1981-2001 Micosoft Corporation Gateway desktop (Windows installed as upgrade from home edition, which upgraded from windows 98) Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158:service pACK 2) Copyright@1981-2001 Micosoft Corporation The hyperlinks are, of course, not included, but I cannot remove them in this message as Edit>remove hyperlinks is grayed out. Thanks in advance for any help. Ken |
