Default Windows login troubles. PLEASE HELP

I really need some help. Right now I can't access my computer at all. When
it boots instead of the usual quick login screen which lists the users I get
a general windows logon dialogue box. If I enter one of the active usernames
and passwords it logs into windows properly, but only for a couple of
seconds and then it loops back to the same login screen. Safe mode doesn't
seem to help. I have windows xp sp2. Please help me. Thanks. Tom

Hi Tom

Can you access Windows via the Administrator Account, or do you have the
same problem? Have you tried 'Last Known Good Configuration' - from the
same screen as access to Safe Mode?

Have you recently removed spyware? If so see if this link helps:

Hi Will,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have tried the last known good configuration
option and it results in the same problem. I tried to use the adminstrator
account, but, since I use it so rarely I can't remember the password. A
couple of additional observations which may or may not be related. Often
when I reboot my keyboard isn't recognized. Also when I go to safe mode it
says Windows Home edition. A year or so ago I installed windows xp
professional. Tom

More symptoms. If I try to enter the recovery console by booting from the
Windows cdrom I can only get so far and then I get an error message that
says that it failed to find the hard drive. What now? Tom

Did you change the BIOS so that looks to the CD drive first on booting?
Is the hard drive recognized in the BIOS? Reboot and go into the BIOS
to see. Open the case and make sure all the cabling to the drive is
connected properly. Download a drive diagnostic utility from the drive
manufacturer's web site. That will create a bootable floppy or CD.
Boot from that and run the diagnostics.

I tried to use the adminstrator account, but, since I use it so rarely I
can't remember the password.

The "Administrator" account password is usually left balnk (ie no password).

have you tried to boot from a Win XP floppy disk??
