I was printing a pdf file from a secure website when Data Execution
Prevention shut down my spooler subsystem app and deleted all of my printers. I'm trying to update Windows XP Pro 2nd ed but it has been checkinng for updates for an hour now. Everytime I restart windows I get the Data Execution Prevention message and I can not enter the menu to setup new printers either. Is there an update to Microsoft's spoolsv.exe? Should I disable DEP? Any suggestions? I noticed that someone had the same issue in november with no replies. Paul |

I did find where andy1963 said to disable DEP for print drivers. Is there
any downside to disabeling DEP for spoolsv.exe since it is a microsoft system file? If you need to do this: Right click my computer, go to properties, advanced tab, DEP tab "PaulMetz" wrote: > I was printing a pdf file from a secure website when Data Execution > Prevention shut down my spooler subsystem app and deleted all of my printers. > I'm trying to update Windows XP Pro 2nd ed but it has been checkinng for > updates for an hour now. > > Everytime I restart windows I get the Data Execution Prevention message and > I can not enter the menu to setup new printers either. > > Is there an update to Microsoft's spoolsv.exe? > Should I disable DEP? > Any suggestions? > > I noticed that someone had the same issue in november with no replies. > > Paul |

After 11 hrs trying to figure this out, here is what I have come up with.
The problem is really with the print driver, I have a minolta 2300dl but appears to be an issue with Lexmark printers also. 1st you need to clear your print spooler. Download these tools from microsoft and run cleanspl.exe. If the program does not run properly, do this first. Right click my computer, click manage, services and applications, services, right click print spooler and click start. To download tools: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en If this does not work, here is the same issue with the Lexmark printer where it shows some additional steps. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324757 I have also determined that it is the crown port driver for the Minolta 2300DL. So unless somebody knows how to prevent this from happening again, I'm only using the standard tcp driver. "PaulMetz" wrote: > I did find where andy1963 said to disable DEP for print drivers.
