Can anyone tell me if, contrary to what I have been finding so far, that
there really is a "secret" way to configure the DHCP allocator for ICS? I need to use ICS but would dearly like to restrict the range of addresses that the DHCP server embedded in ICS hands out. I have included the full text of the query that I sent directly to Microsoft below. They routed me here. I'd surely appreciate any help. Bill --- BEGIN QUERY --- KB articles 314066 and 316276 state in the "Configuration and Usage Issues" section that: ["You cannot modify the default network configuration after you enable ICS. This includes changing the range of private IP addresses that are handed out (DHCP allocator), enabling or disabling DNS, and configuring a range of public IP addresses."] I am hopeful that, since the time those articles were posted (2004 ?), there must have been sufficient user queries, that by now a way to at least be able to limit the range of IP address that will be allocated, has been devised, BUT that I merely cannot find it. My specific application involves a WIN machine running ICS, connecting via a basic dialup connection, and a wireless device running DHCP. I can limit the DHCP scope on the wireless device but I am still having periodic problems with DHCP address conflicts. I wait with great expectation for guidance on, or referral to, a method that will either: - allow me to change or limit the range of IP address that will be allocated when ICS is enabled OR - any other potential solution including, but not limited to, for example, some idea about the "preferences" of the ICS DHCP service, so that I can configure my wireless DHCP server to "stay away" from ranges "preferred" by ICS. --- END QUERY --- |
