Hi there!
This is the situation: A friend has a desktop and a laptop both with XP. The desktop has floppy drive, but not the laptop (but has CD ROM). He has MathCAD installation software on three floppies. He likes to install this app on his laptop so he can work anywhere. He burned three CDs out of the three floppies but the app is looking for floppy disk one, two, etc. I asked him if he can add a floppy drive to his laptop, he said there was no connection on the mother board for it. Is there a way for him to install this app on his PC other than upgrading MathCAD to XP & CD version? Thanks in advance email address is fake. MA |

1.) USB Floppy Drive, ~$35-45 US - Not cost effective to install a
single application. 2.) Move the contents of all three floppy disks to a single folder, burn to CD-R and re-attempt to install. 3.) Based on age, the application may be a "Self-Contained" program that doesn't rely on Registry Keys or Windows sub-folder content. Copy the entire installed path folder to CD-R, Copy to the Laptop drive in the exact same path location and attempt to run the .Exe. I seem to recall (vaguely) that you can make a folder on the laptop called,
say, MathCAD. Then make 3 folders inside that one, called, Disk 1, Disk 2, and Disk 3. Then copy the contents of floppy 1 to the Disk 1 folder, floppy 2 to the Disk 2 folder, etc. Then run the Setup from the Disk 1 folder. Maybe someone else can comment on this? Is this a method that use to work in olden times?
