On my home computer - new Dell with Windows XP SP2 Home edition, I can log
into the XP newgroups and can post a reply to a message, however it won't let me post a new topic question. When I click on the "New" icon, I get a little red fist showing and it won't go to the post screen. I have a dialup connection with Earthlink Total Access and Earthlink Accelerator running. I also have the Windows firewall and Symantec antivirus running. Any ideas on what the problem may be? Thanks for your time. I posted a previous message about the same computer won't let me download from Windows Updates. It looks for the updates for a minute or so then I get the error message "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view." and error code 0x8024001D. |

Rename C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\DataStore to C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\DataStore.poo and that
will reset Microsoft Update after rebooting. You will eXPerience a far better, and quicker, newsgroup posting by using the Outlook Express newsreader rather than relying on the web-based newsgroup web site: Windows XP Newsgroup Setup Instructions for Outlook Express http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...roupsetup.mspx Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Microsoft Community Newsgroups news://msnews.microsoft.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nelda" wrote: | On my home computer - new Dell with Windows XP SP2 Home edition, I can log | into the XP newgroups and can post a reply to a message, however it won't let | me post a new topic question. What newsgroups client do you use at home? Outlook Express? To which newsgroups server do you connect? To Microsoft's (msnews.microsoft.com)? Or maybe to a read-only server and why you cannot post? -- __________________________________________________ _____ ** Post replies to the newsgroup. Vanuard:
Not sure really, pretty new to this computer stuff even though I'm 57 yrs. old!! I just go the microsoft newsgroup site and login. I can post a reply to message but I can't post a new topic message. I know I don't use Outlook Express or any of that stuff. I have a dialup connection running Earthlink Total Access and Earthlink Accelerator, Windows XP firewall and Symantec anitvirus if that makes any difference. Thanks everyone for you suggestions and help so far.
