Thank you ,your reply was well written and concise. I would give you the
high rating of GOLD if only I could navigate though all the instructions to
get to that ratings point.

You're welcome and don't worry about rating. Just work on getting this
problem on your system under control.

You said that you have some suspicions that the beeps may due to
overheating. (A reference of the beep codes for your system would confirm
that or not.) Some BIOS will have settings to change the threshold for the
alarm. If available, you could nudge the threshold up a touch. Wouldn't go
too far as the whole point of the warning is to avoid conditions that could
be damaging to your hardware.

Also, laptops and other portables tend to run a bit hot --a lot of hardware
packed into a small space. Cleaning is a bit difficult with a laptop -
you're pretty much limited to keeping the vents as clear as possible.
However, I have read about some after market cooling devices such as this
one: http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA248U

Have not tried a cooling pad but being a Tablet PC user (very slim
portables), have read good reports of their performance in the various
tablet PC forums.
