Hi there,

Thaks for the response. I've not got access to the afore mentioned PC at the
moment but the next time I am there with it I will check out the modem.

I will add though that the USB keyboard works fine. In fact the mouse is a
USB mouse (as is the keyboard) and on first inspection they were both pluged
into the PS/2 ports with adaptors. I tried different configurations (eg.
plugging mouse via usb and keyboard ps/2) and the same result always
occured, the mouse never worked.

Any more information that I can be armed with before I revisit where the
broken PC is would be very helpful (it is a frineds system).

Kind regards

Dave

You've got me confused. You or they had "both plugged into the PS/2 ports
with adapters"?
Both mouse and keyboard are "USB" devices and were plugged into PS/2 ports
via adapters?

Does computer have USB ports?

USB Keyboard does work whether plugged into PS/2 adapter or USB port?
USB mouse does NOT work whether in PS/2 adapter or USB port?

Do you have another mouse USB or PS/2 available to plug into this computer?
USB mouse could be bad.

USB mouse drivers for Optical mouse are:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\mouclass.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\mouhid.sys

Plug USB mouse and keyboard into USB ports.

Sorry for the confusion. OK I went to look at the PC and at first it was
like this.
It had both a USB keyboard and mouse. However, using a USB to PS/2 adaptor
on each, the keyboard and mouse were both plugged into the PS/2 ports on the
PC.

I tried different configurations. At first I tried unplugging the mouse from
the PS/2 port, removing the USB to PS/2 adaptor and then plugging the mouse
into a built in USB port. This made no difference.

I then tried removing the USB to PS/2 adaptor from the keyboard and plugging
this into another built in USB port on the PC (no USB hubs were used). This
also made no difference (therefore the keyboard still worked but the mouse
did not).

I also tried plugging the mouse into the PS/2 (using adaptor) and keyboard
into USB but nothing changed.

By the way I have tried a different mouse also and this has not helped.

Hope this makes more sense.

Kind regards

Dave

So what kind of mouse did you try?

Did you check for drivers given?

What happened to PCI controller issue?
