I recently installed a new Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit to replace my onboard
sound card. Since install none of my sound options have worked. I have installed drivers new and old, Tried multiple PCI slots, everything, I cannot make it work. The audio properties tab is completely grayed out, saying no Audio Devices are installed. Device Manager has no errors or resource conflicts and shows the hardware installed just fine. When I check Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, Go to the Hardware Tab, Properties of Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit, Properties again, Audio Devices, Properties, I see a "Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started." According to other forums, the problem may be the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator. According to that advice I reinstalled it and it had no affect on the problem. Another thing I saw indicated that I may have no space for new Midi/Wave/etc. devices in the registry. By going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 and deleting duplicate named keys of Midi, midi1, midi2, etc. That may free up the driver registration space and help solve the problem, however, this tactic didn't work either. I am at the end of my ropes with this. I should not need to reinstall windows again simply because I bought a new soundcard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, HeXFuRy@hotmail.com |

The Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!, and first generation Audigy, sound
cards can suffer a PCI enumerator chip "crash." That is to say that the card's PCI identification chip can be erased. Creative Labs has known about this problem. Check with Creative Labs for more help. On 15/11/2005 "HeXFuRy" <HeXFuRy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >I recently installed a new Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit to replace my onboard >sound card. Yes, I disabled the onboard sound from the BIOS first. Now however, even if
I remove the additional card, no sound device will work. I have tried removing the Soundblaster Live! card and enabling the on board sound again, and still, no audio devices and the Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started. Thank you for trying to help, HeXFuRy "Malke" wrote: > HeXFuRy wrote: > > > I recently installed a new Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit to replace my > > onboard > > sound card. I don't think this would be the problem as if the PCI enumerator chip were to
crash the card would not be properly identified when attempting to install drivers or anything of that nature. I can install drivers, they install perfectly, but they never get started. If I knew how to manually start a driver, it may provide more information.
