Default Modem problem

Help please! My Compaq Presario 5060 PC has an internal modem ( Compq Pres
56k-DFi) and worked well on Windows 98 and dial-up. However, since I changed
my drive and installed Windows 2000, I find that I now cannot connect to the
INET. When I click Device Manager-Modem-Properties and then Device Status, it
reads "This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not
give it the required resources [Code 29]. Also, when I type msinfo32.exe in
Run, it shows that the Modem is attached to Com3 whereas on Windows 98 it was
attached to Com2 (which is the default port for telephony according to the
Compaq manual).

The driver file details now are:
C:WINNTsystem32driversltmdmntc.sys
C:WINNTsystem32driversmodem.sys.

Originally. with Windows 98, it used to be:
C:WindowssystemLT modem.VXD
C:WindowssystemLTVCD,VXD
C:WINNTsystemLTCOM.VXD

What should I do to get my modem working with Windows 2000. Thanks for any
advice.

Your old modem is not supported in Windows 2K or XP. The easiest thing
to do is uninstall the old modem and go buy a new one that will work.
You can get a new modem for under $35usd.

....and preferably a "hardware" modem that can be jumpered
or with a programmable EPROM.
